Are they incredibly lazy or just dumb? I see a lot of questions on YA from kids who graduated high school and they can't drive and have no license. What on earth is going on?|||Some parents may not trust their children enough to allow them to drive. Others may not want to pay for insurance or gas for them to drive. Some may not want their kids to be independent. Whatever their reason I personally think it is stupid and think all teenagers that are old enough to drive should be able to drive!|||I've seen this as well. I was in my drivers ed class a few years ago. Half the people dropped it for many reasons, but the popular ones I heard were: "My parents don't want me to drive." "My parents don't want to pay insurance." "My parents are making me pay for the class and I don't want to/I can't pay for it all."
Parents are either becoming too lazy or too cheap when it comes to their kids driving. I'm lucky my parents taught me how to drive %26amp; allowed me to take drivers ed as soon as possible! You don't just need to learn how to drive, but you need an ID on you, too! I'm 18 and all but one of my friends can't drive! It's crazy!! How are we supposed to explore %26amp; become independent?|||I am 27 and just got my license at 22 because my boyfriend's Dad and Sister helped me get my license.
The reason my parents didn't? My poor mom is too afraid to drive so she never got her license, which leaves my horrible Dad. His parents made him do EVERYTHING. So in his head I had to do everything on my own without his help because that was what he had to do at 16. Which didn't help me because the whole Mall/Walmart, DMV, Job market town is 13 miles away! (but would get on my back when I was 18 because I didn't have a job!)|||many Insurance Companies give discounts for students that take Drivers Education courses .... Also, the vehicle used may be the only on available immediately after school...
Third, the school vehicle is insured and if an accident did occur, it would not be a problem for the breadwinner to get to work the next day.|||some kids are just unfortunate and don't have parents who are willing to teach them how to drive and pay for their drivers ed class. The big question is what is a lets say 19 year old going to do without a license, some parents really don't realize the impact not having a license has on a young adults social and school life. You perform alot better when your driving in your car, you don't have to wait on stupid buses and you gain alot of independnce. I think parents who choose to be selfish and not pay for their kids drivers ed and car insurance (when they have the money) are really not thinking about their kids well being. Its alot safer driving yourself around than being driven with a bunch of (for all we know crazy ppl) riding the bus. Not to mention the bus your only limited to going certain places.. plus its unsafe at night to be riding in it especially if your a girl, you still have to walk quite a ways if your planning on walking it home alone at night. I hated taking the bus im glad i was lucky to have parents wiling to teach me how to drive and pay for my drivers ed and car insurance.. im still trying to find a second job so i can lesson the load on my parents.. i feel bad that they payf or my car insurance.. i think most ppl my age pay for their own car insurance themselves =/
plus driving a car is very expensive, and inorder to drive one you must be insured. Is the average parent really willing to pay 300 dollars per month for their kids car insurance? what kid is going to have 300 dollars a month, assuming the kid goes to school full time? no part time job will pay that much per month. And on top of that you have to counter in gas and all the other upkeeps of having a car. If you get in an accident your insurance rates go up ALOT. So with that being said, on the second hand i can see why some parents opt to not even bother teaching their kid how to drive, because they don't want to be responsible for being suckerd into paying for the kids car insurance (which is probably what usually happens; happend with mine, my parents were so hell bent for not paying for my car insurance.. but in the end they ended up paying it lol BUT IM LOOKING FOR A SECOND JOB SO I CAN PAY FOR IT MYSELF THO! ... regardless not teaching your kid to drive is downright SELFISH. And i really think its ignorant for parents to deprive their kid a useful skill that they will thank them later. I am SOOO glad my parents taught me how to drive and its indefinite a useful skill. I always hated to ask them to drive me places.. now i can just go myself! and i hated taking the bus too.. especially walking home alone at night.. or even in the day lol. You just feel so vulnerable. In your car you feel like you have at least some control and independnece.
just cause some people don't drive does not mean they don't have their license.. they may just be saving their money for school or other expenses. They don't have parents who are spoiling them and it mkes them harder workers. Not to say parents who spoil their children make the child less of a hard worker.. it just means they lesson the load that the kid has because being a college student is not cheap. IT helps alot when ur parent pays for your car expenses as well as insurance|||Not every parent can afford the means to teach their kids how to drive. Shoot, not every parent has a car to even teach the kids, nevertheless money to pay for driver's ed.|||Maybe they can't afford it....i don't know.
I have a friend who has 3 other siblings close in age...
I don't know what her parents reasoning is behind not letting her (the oldest) get her license.|||Maybe because their busy or very tired or sick most of the time.
Or they would have let their child travel in life themself so they can mature and do things on their own.|||Both our family cars are standard stick shift and one of my kids flatly refused to try to learn. The other was ok with it and has a licence.|||i know right! well it's a good thing i learned by myself, taking my parents car at night while they were asleep|||I am one of these kids.
Or rather was.
