Do our Malaysian bankers really understand the purpose of showing ID/IC?

I went to CIMB bank for sending money overseas and they, of course required me to show my IC as a proof of identification (pictured identification)

Unfortunately, I left my IC at home. I have my driving licence. But they refused to accept it. They only accept IC or passport.

Isn't a driving licence a valid document issued %26amp; recognized by the Malaysian Government with picture as a proof an individual's identity?

Frustrated I went back with my IC, and guess what? I presented the IC %26amp; required forms to another officer/counter and he took the IC, photocopied and all, without looking at my face.

Aren't they supposed to verify the PICTURE and the PERSON who they dealt with?

And I wonder why on earth we have morons like those officers who regard my (Government-issued) pictured ID driving license is not LEGITIMATE enough to verify a person!|||I can understand your frustration. Driving licence is a government issued document and should be accepted for ID purposes just like in western countries. I remember when I was studying, I only use my student ID for all purposes (incl. opening bank accounts) except when applying for summer work permit when my passport was needed.

But just like Ginduras said, we are having different situation in Malaysia compared to westerners who are generally more honest than us. Malaysians and PTI will be having great time issuing fake licences if driving licence is generally accepted, whereas our not-so-smart-but-better NRIC is harder to be cloned.

But I agree with the fact that the officer not verifying the IC is a malpractice and negligence. Don't be surprised suddenly you have an unknown house loan.|||IC/mykad/passport=your the banker can check whether your mykad is palsu or not...

driving license=the banker cannot verify its 'ketulenan'

but, i dont think this is 'leceh' coz its for us, costumer's safety......|||1) Driving licence is an official indentification document in the USA %26amp; Canada only because they don't have such thing as IC

2) EU countries don't accept driving licence as a document of identification, they only accept passport or IC

3) Malaysian falsified driving licence costs RM 600 for an original (means they got an insider in JPJ) and RM 150 for a fake one; and it's easy to falsify

4) The part where he didn't look at your face was the fault of the employee

5) This can often be annoying, but you can be happy, you can put your IC in your wallet, I have to bring my passport around whenever I have such dealing...|||Do you know that you should bring your IC with you when you are going out.

Last time there is a boy who forget to bring his IC, and end up in jail for 6 months.|||What the hack there need your IC for verification.

Do you mean from your saving account?

FYI, they have no right to photocopy your IC without asking your permission %26amp; you should make sure the copy was cross %26amp; written for what purposes.
