should owners of pits have to be licensed and bonded, or something along those lines? Two children have been killed by pit bulls in the last week in our area, with countless other attacks by this breed of dog. Many times the dogs are shot and killed after the attack. Does anyone have a solution, or an intelligent response. I am not trying to be rude, but, this is a sensitive topic for some people, and I would really be interested on how people really feel about this topic! Many thanks for reading.|||I think pit bulls get a bad name in how they're used....alot of people have been illegally using these dogs for fighting. It's really in the way that they're raised. Dogs in a way are like children....they need proper upbringing, discipline and positive reinforcement. If they don't get that any kind of dog (not just pit bulls) can "go bad." Some of these dogs may not have been properly socialized either. Unfortunately you see all the bad press on this particular breed, and it may only be a few isolated cases in dog attacks, not that "every pit bull" will be like this. I had a pit bull, and I've known people that have pit bulls, and they've always been the sweetest, gentlest dogs. Rottweilers and even German Shepherds have been known to attack and Chows are notorious for attacks, but those don't seem to be the ones that make it into the headlines much.|||U know, its not the dogs fault.......if the owners wouldnt raise them wrong they would be the lovingest pets........my best friend and her hubby have one and let me tell he is such a baby........as long as u are throwing a ball he is ur best friend ever|||lol, i love the Or... umm, yea you dont know what im talking about but its an inside joke.|||I agree the owners should have more restraint over there dogs however not all pit's are bad that's just a negative stereotype|||No. Pitbulls are some of the most loving dogs. It's just their strength gets exploited by sick people, thus resulting in mean animals. A sick person could make a poodle deadly if they wanted to.|||hmmmm.....its gonna be hard to wipe them all of the face of the planet, so i would go with taking a magmum .35 gun out on them|||Owners should have to be licensed. It's their fault, mainly. They're the ones who raised the dog wrong and encouraged it to become vicious.|||my neighbor has pit bulls and they aren't mean at all
they even play with my 4 year old cousin
it is all in how you raise the dog|||It is insane to see these dogs! They should all be banned!! I dont care if it is the owners fault, these dogs, like rots, will get a pack mentality and attack! Any attack dog should not be legal for lay people. When there was a pit bull on my street I considered poisoning it, lucky for the dog, they moved shortly after I had my child.
I took my tiny toy poodle to the dog park and we were attacked by a pack of dogs. The apple who brought them was a freaking dog trainer and he knew that some of the dogs had problems, yet he let them off of their leases. It was terrifying. I threw my poor dog on the ground and screamed and ran. The apple came running and go the most aggressive and threw it on the ground and held it by its neck and yelled at me to bring my little dog over to smell it. (supposed to "Break" the big dog). I did it,and the apple let the dog go and it came after us again.
By the time I reached my car, shaking, the entire park had cleared out. It amazes all the time to see people set their big dogs loose when there are children around. I DON"T CARE HOW FRIENDLY YOUR DOG IS, it is an animal.|||MEGAN S YOU ARE A SICK AND IGNORANT PERSON.
Poisoning a Pit Bull because you feel unsafe simply because of its breed, that's disgusting. And apparently you weren't too concerned about the safety of your own dog by dropping it and running away. Quit being such a victim by choice. Its because of people like you that thousands of dogs are being put down just because of their breed. I think that when the dogs are in the hands of stupid, ignorant people then they become a problem. So, instead of taking it out of the animal who is raised wrong, lets take it out on the stupid/ ignorant people. Megan S, please report to the nearest euthanizing station.
As a owner of multiple "aggressive breeds" (2 Pitt bulls, a rottweiler, a doberman and a Canary Dog) i can firmly stand here and tell you that ALL DOGS should only be allowed into that hands of responsible owners. And from first hand experience from when i was a child, i had one neighbour with a German Sheppard, and one with a Collie. I had to get 35 stitches because of one of them...........THE COLLIE. The Collie, which to most Americans is Lassie, attacked me in my front yard out of no where with no provoking on my part. The German Sheppard on the other hand I could have punched, kicked, yelled at and done pretty much as much damage as a 10 year old could to a dog like that with no attack done to me.
All it takes is a little research to find out just how many attacks are caused by Pit Bulls each year. On the UKC website, Pit Bulls account for a staggering 8% of all attacks from the past decade, 1998-to today. 8% seems like alot until you scroll down to 28% by the vicious and extremely dangerous Poodle.
These publications of Pit Bull attacks are just like the shark attacks being on the news all the time about 5 years ago. There had been no more shark attacks that year than any other year before it, those attacks just had more publicity. The media feeds of the fears of people, thats how they get you hooked. When you see the title " Pit Bull savagley mauls small child", you are hooked with interest. People look for that sort of thing.
People are supposed to be smarter than dogs, so we as a group need to punish those in charge of the dog. One of my Pit Bulls was rescued from a group of people conducting dog fights, she was a practice dog. You can see the scars all over her body from where she was forced to fight and lose to other dogs so that they could practice, not to mention her previous owner tried to kill her by shooting her three times in the side. She managed to hold on long enough for a passer by to hear her whimpering in a dumpster. Now, you'd think after such a terrible life a dog like her, especially being a full bred American Red Nose Pit Bull, would be a danger to anyone around her. I've seen my 1 year old niece poke her in the eyes, pull on her ears, put her hands in her mouth and tug at her tail......all while she sits there laying and licking on her.
I would trust my severly abused Pit over that Collie with my 1 year old niece any day of the week. The difference between that collie and my pit is, if that collie attacked me or my niece, my pit would do anything to protect us, she would die before she let anything happen to her. You can;t buy that kind of self-lessness. Just do a little digging, and you'll see that before the Pit bull was labeled as a violent attacker, it was known as the family dog, who's great with children, loyal to the end and has a keen sense to know when the ones it loves are in danger.
So megan s, go play in traffic.|||Well maybe becasue pit bulls are the most missed IDed dog when it comes to attacks. The CDC beleive as much as 70% of pit attacks are done by other dogs. Here is a test, if you are honest and have honor you well take it then e-mail me and tell the truth about how you did:
http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/鈥?/a>
Most pit attacks are caused by the 5% of pit owners that have missed treated, abused, straved and trian thier dogs to be mean. Then let them run free. I own a pit bull and he has a job, he is my service dog. He is just one of many. In fact there is a move to use this breed for this job. Also did you know the #1 detection dog for the custom service is a pit bull. His name is popscile becasue he was left to die in a freezer by a drug dealer. He as now put 1000's in jail. There have been people come up and try to hurt my Batman when he is in his "uniform" because he is a pit bull. Thank god there is a law in this state that anyone trying to hurt in any way a service dog can end up in jail and I make sure they pay for it. Try looking up the good pit do. What need need are stornger laws to use aginst the people that trun dogs, no matter the breed, into monsters then let them loose.
