Should it be done through education, by creating a Super Clean Agency, by rewarding companies that do a good job with huge tax breaks or by severely punishing companies that continue to violate existing rules and regulations and threaten them with fines and license revocations. Or has all this already been tried? What should we do?|||I agree it has as much to do with the consumers as the companies that make things.
As much as I love trees my house is made of wood, and steel and brick which come from mining and factories
Education and public relations could play an important role, but I would hesitate to create
another bureaucracy, which would cause another lobby to buy off politicians
Some how we need to make it the right way to be, the right thing to do
and maybe the same way we made anti -smoking accepted, which seemed like it happened almost overnight, but people still smoke.
The problem is that we are all to blame and the "real" answers are very tough choices|||We have to become more "accountable" for our actions on all levels
and we have to hold ourselves and everyone at all levels accountable
not just in protecting the earth
Blaming and finger pointing is an empty gesture
We are all accountable.....our "consumer culture" is destroying....
or at least stretching the limits
We provide the markets for these companies
We could debate if they are forced on us or we choose them.....BUT
We provide the market......they would not make, cut, drill, refine, pollute....or employ
if..... WE ....did not buy the product
How do you change an attitude?
How do you make people accountable?........after 5000 years of learning to perfect
how to blame, deflect, spin, and point the finger?
Would the "Super Clean Agency" arrest you for driving to fast?(uses more oil)
or being on your computer too long?(uses more electric)Not cleaning out a dirty container to recycle?...arrest you or me for screaming to repeal the 55MPH limit and demanding SUV's
when we were headed the opposite direction in the 70's...etc,etc,etc...list is endless
What should we do?....take a good hard look at all the reasons WHY?
From the consumer to the biggest polluter
Then be honest, understand, put personal and cooperate agenda aside
and react to all the honest reasons why......with a doable reaction
Consume less , consider the impact, use the most earth friendly, and make with out pollution
and BE ACCOUNTABLE when it goes otherwise
